TheUncoated is a no microplastics product catalog for people who want simpler everyday materials and fewer plastic-shedding or plastic-contact surfaces touching food, water, skin, or fabric.
How products are selected
Products are selected by looking at material class, product descriptions, contact parts, brand claims, and available supporting evidence. The catalog prioritizes uncoated stainless steel, cast iron, carbon steel, glass, wood, cotton, wool, linen, hemp, and other products where the relevant surface is not a synthetic polymer.
Cotton is cotton. Wool is wool. They do not become microplastic-shedding materials unless the product hides synthetic blends, elastic layers, plastic coatings, waterproof membranes, or other polymer contact surfaces.
Some categories need extra caution. Nonstick cookware, waterproof textiles, stain-resistant finishes, synthetic dental floss, synthetic baby mats, synthetic activewear, synthetic period layers, and coated paper products are reviewed more carefully because a PFAS-free claim does not answer the microplastics question.
TheUncoated is not a lab-testing service. When a product is included, the page explains the reason for inclusion and the type of evidence available, such as material-based selection, source-backed claims, or visible caveats.
